Baroque Cristo Vivo
Technique: Carved ivory. In a modern painted iron stand.
Dimensions: From head to toes: 32,5 cm Total height: 39 cm.
Condition: Excelent. Small loss in the peryzonium cord.
Fantastic Baroque Cristo Vivo, possibly made by a Spanish or South Italian artist, with a notable meticulous work of the facial features, that underlines the suffering and the passion of the scene.
In contrast with the head, the feet and the peryzonium, the torso is represented with very little anatomical details, but with an harmonious volume and a pose of softly curving the back, that along with the gentle right knee flexion provides to the body an elegant and sinuous movement, thus increasing the pain feeling ant the pathos of the scene.
This beautiful sculpture is in optimal condition, with only minor brakes in the peryzonium cord and with the exceptional rarity of preserving intact every single finger and toe.
