Renaissance grotesque head

Technique: Carved limestone

Condition: Good condition: old breaks around the piece and some scratches, but no restorations. Nice outside patina.

XVIth century French Renaissance high relief sculpture in tufa stone, representing a grotesque head spilling a bunch a fruits and flowers. The face features are finely rendered, like the eyelids or the lips, the mouth letting fall a bunch of fruits and flowers, like several acorns...
According to the type of limestone, tufa stone, the piece was possibly made in the French Loire region. 
It bears an old provenance label on the back, mentioning the Abbey of Bourgueil.
